Segerea road upgrade included in 2026/27 plan

DODOMA: CONSTRUCTION of the Bima–Mawenzi–Kimanga Road in Segerea Constituency has been included in the 2026/27 development plan, with 3.65 kilometres earmarked for upgrading, including 0.65 kilometres to be built with concrete pavement at a cost of 1.87bn/-.
Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Dr Festo Dugange, told the National Assembly in Dodoma yesterday that an additional 0.7-kilometre stretch will be constructed through the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project Phase 2 (DMDP II), which is being implemented across all districts in Dar es Salaam Region.
“The government will continue implementing this road project in phases until its completion to improve transport infrastructure and movement of people and goods,” he explained.
Dr Dugange made the statements while responding to a basic question from Segerea MP, Agnesta Kaiza (CHAUMMA), who wanted to know when the government would finally upgrade the Bima–Mawenzi–Kimanga Road to tarmac level.
The Deputy Minister said the government had already been improving the road gradually.
According to him, In the 2023/24 financial year, a 200-metre segment was built with concrete pavement at a cost of 281m/-, while another 0.4-kilometre section was constructed with asphalt at a cost of 593m/-. Work on the remaining sections is ongoing.
In a supplementary question, the MP asked what measures the government had put in place to ensure timely disbursement of funds to accelerate construction.

Dr Dugange said that due to the significance of the road, funds for the 2026/27 financial year, starting July this year, will be released as early as possible to facilitate timely construction.
On compensation for residents affected by the Maji Chumvi–Barracuda Road project, the deputy minister said the government is conducting valuation exercise to determine compensation costs, adding that the process is currently undergoing budgetary procedures to secure the required funds.
“We understand that there are residents who deserve compensation. I assure the MP and the affected community that the government will pay the compensation to enable the road project to proceed,” he said.
