Second Dr Salim Conference set for September 30

DAR ES SALAAM: THE second Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Conference will be held on September 30, this year, in Dar es Salaam, to highlight the veteran diplomat’s contribution to peace, conflict resolution and development at national, regional and international levels.

The one-day conference, organized by the Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Centre for Foreign Relations (CFR), will be held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) and graced by Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

According to Richard Cheyo, Head of Communications and Marketing at the Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Centre for Foreign Relations (CFR), Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister, Ambassador Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, is expected to be the guest of honour.

Mr Cheyo said the conference seeks to honour Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s contribution to diplomacy and his efforts towards promoting peace and resolving conflicts in Africa and beyond.

The conference will be held under the theme, Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s Contribution to Building Peace and Global Prosperity.

He said two papers will be presented, focusing on Dr Salim’s contribution to conflict resolution in Africa and the prosperity and development of countries in the Global South.

The first paper will examine Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s Efforts in Conflict Resolution in Africa, while the second will focus on Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s Contribution to the Prosperity and Development of Global South Countries.

Mr Cheyo said the conference would provide a platform for participants to reflect on Dr Salim’s diplomatic contribution and its relevance to current efforts to promote peace, cooperation and development.

Participants are expected to include members of Dr Salim Ahmed Salim’s family, the CFR Governing Council, ambassadors and representatives of international organisations based in Tanzania.

Representatives from government ministries, public institutions and the private sector, higher learning institutions and colleges, academics, members of the diplomatic community and students of the Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Centre for Foreign Relations are also expected to attend.

Mr Cheyo said the discussions would also provide an opportunity to examine the role of diplomacy and dialogue in addressing conflicts and promoting prosperity, particularly in Africa and the Global South.

The conference is the second organised by the Centre to honour Dr Salim Ahmed Salim and reflect on his contribution to diplomacy at national, regional and international levels.
