Sea Cliff Golf Club junior programme gains momentum

ZANZIBAR: THE newly introduced Junior Golf Training Programme at the Sea Cliff Resort and Spa Golf Club in Zanzibar is already gaining momentum, just two weeks after its launch.

Club Manager Sophie Nyanjera said the initiative has received encouraging support from parents and young golfers, with 11 children participating in the early training sessions.

The free programme, open to children aged between 5 and 17 years, takes place every Saturday from 11am to 12pm at the club’s scenic Mangapwani course. Training sessions are conducted by professional golfer Stanley Sanga.

Nyanjera announced that the junior training session scheduled for Saturday, March 14, will be sponsored by the club’s Golf Captain, Tazio Bercelli. She urged parents and guardians to register their children in advance to help organisers plan effectively.

“We are pleased with the early response to the junior programme and encourage more parents to register their children so they can benefit from the training,” she said.

She also encouraged members to share the information with interested families to help expand participation.

According to Nyanjera, registration is also ongoing for the club’s Golf Challenge scheduled for March 21, which is open to all golfers. The club has appealed to golfers and stakeholders to support the initiative through sponsorship and ideas that could further improve future events.

“The junior programme had a successful start with 11 children participating. We welcome ideas and sponsorship to help us grow and make future sessions even better,” she said.

The programme forms part of the club’s broader vision to promote grassroots sports development and make golf more accessible to young people in Zanzibar.

“This programme is about planting seeds for the future of golf in Zanzibar. We want young people to discover the sport early, develop their skills and most importantly enjoy the game,” Nyanjera added.

The launch of the junior initiative also comes as the club enters a new phase of leadership. For the first time since its establishment, club officials have been nominated directly by members, bringing in newly elected Club Captain Bercelli and Vice-Captain Collins Chemng’orem.

With its picturesque setting overlooking the Indian Ocean and a renewed focus on youth development and inclusivity, Sea Cliff Golf Club the lonely golf course in Zanzibar is positioning itself for a vibrant new era in the sport.
