SC Villa Captain David Owori Dies After Attack By Thugs

UGANDA: Ugandan football has been plunged into mourning following the death of SC Villa captain David Owori after he reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during an attack by unknown thugs on Monday night.

Hours before his passing was confirmed, Villa Public Relations Officer Asan Kasingye disclosed the incident in a post on X, revealing that the defender had been critically injured near his home in Makindye.

“Our @SCVillaJogoo Captain David Owori was attacked last night near his home in Makindye at around 8pm by unknown thugs. He’s critically injured and admitted at Case clinic. Our President will be addressing the press about this developing story. Get well soon son. Our prayers.”

Owori had been rushed to Case Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

His death marks a heartbreaking loss for Villa and Ugandan football. Owori will be remembered as one of the leaders behind the Jogoos’ historic 2023/24 Uganda Premier League triumph, ending the club’s 20-year wait for a league title while securing a record-extending 17th championship.

A composed and dependable right-back and defender, Owori established himself as one of the senior figures at Villa, before earning the captain’s armband. His leadership, discipline and consistency were instrumental in restoring Villa to the summit of Ugandan football.
