Samia unveils new BRT corridors from Dar to three Pwani districts

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced government plans to expand the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network to cover more parts of Dar es Salaam and extend services to neighbouring Coast Region as part of efforts to improve urban mobility.

Speaking during the inauguration of the BRT Phase II infrastructure on August 7, 2026, President Samia said the expansion programme will include new BRT corridors from Bunju to Bagamoyo, Mbagala to Mkuranga and Gongo la Mboto to Kisarawe.

She said the government will seek financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other development partners to facilitate the implementation of the planned infrastructure projects.

According to the President, the expansion is intended to improve public transport services, ease traffic congestion and provide faster and more reliable transport for residents of Dar es Salaam and Coast Region.

President Samia said the government’s continued investment in mass transit infrastructure is aimed at supporting rapid urbanisation, improving connectivity between key residential and commercial areas and promoting sustainable economic development.
