BRT Phase II project impresses the AfDB President
DAR ES SALAAM: THE African Development Bank (AfDB) President,Dr Sidi Ould Tah, has described the Phase II Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as an environmentally friendly transport initiative, saying the use of natural gas-powered buses will position Dar es Salaam among Africa’s leading cities in clean energy transport.
Speaking during the inauguration of the BRT Phase II infrastructure along Kilwa, Chang’ombe, Sokoine and Kawawa roads in Azizi Ally, Temeke District, on August 7, 2026, Dr Tah said the project marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable urban transport while reducing environmental pollution.
He said, besides improving public transport services, the project will enable commuters to reach their workplaces and business centres on time, thereby increasing productivity and supporting economic growth.

According to Dr Tah, the investment demonstrates how modern transport infrastructure can improve the quality of life while contributing to sustainable development.
He commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her visionary and results-oriented leadership, saying the successful implementation of the project reflects the government’s commitment to investing in sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure.
Dr Tah reaffirmed the African Development Bank’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s development agenda through strategic investments in transport and other key sectors aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
