DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to inaugurate a high-profile international mining conference expected to bring together 1,500 participants from within and outside the country.
The event, scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, aims to strengthen the mining sector and boost the national economy.
Minister of Minerals, Mr Anthony Mavunde, revealed this at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, highlighting the conference as a platform to explore opportunities, address challenges, and outline strategies for the future of Tanzania’s mining industry.
The minister noted that this conference builds on the success of a similar event held in 2019, where the government dedicated over six hours to listening to mining stakeholders about their challenges, concerns, and recommendations.
He emphasized that the positive impact of the 2019 meeting underscored the importance of organizing internationally-oriented conferences to advance Tanzania’s mining industry.

The minister added that the government is committed to fostering an investor-friendly environment to attract both local and international investments in the mining sector. With a target of raising the sector’s contribution to 10 percent of the national GDP by 2025, he affirmed that creating a favorable investment climate is essential to achieving this goal.
He highlighted Tanzania’s wealth in diverse mineral resources, including metallic minerals, industrial minerals, high-value gemstones, and deep-sea minerals: “With these extensive resources, Tanzania stands as a major global player in the production of minerals essential to the world economy,” he said.
The conference will serve as a critical opportunity for both local and international investors to explore the nation’s potential, and for the government to showcase its commitment to industry growth.
The conference will conclude with a closing address by the President of Zanzibar, Hussein Mwinyi, underscoring the national significance of Tanzania’s mining sector.
