Samia scholarship beneficiaries urged to focus on education

DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Education, Science and Technology Prof Adolf Mkenda has encouraged beneficiaries of Samia Scholarship Extended – Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS/AI) to prioritize on tapping extra knowledge to help in advancing the nation.
Speaking at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) during a farewell occasion of ten students who departed the country on Monday, October 5, 2026 to pursue undergraduate studies in Russia, he insisted that they ought to fully focus on education in order to grasp essential knowledge to be used for national development.
“You have been selected to study abroad basing on your academic excellence after doing well in Advanced Level ( A-Level) Examinations as such, use this opportunity wisely to study hard and tap enough knowledge to be used to develop your country.
“I have strong belief that you will make us proud because we are sending the best to make the most…your excellent performance here is an indication that you will achieve more during your studying period in Russia,” Prof Mkenda said.
He added that government will be with them throughout their stay in Russia and that they will be making regular follow-ups to assess their overall academic excellence and wellbeing.
“It is not easy to live and study in a foreign country…you will find many new things but always be united, encourage one another to work hard and spare time to visit Tanzania embassy in Russia whenever a need is required,” he said.
He also pointed out that Russia has made significant strides in science and technology as such, they should use this platform to study deep and bring home modern skills that will support their country to also make serious breakthrough in this technology powered world.

“Your departure should be a motivation for your younger brothers and sisters who are still studying to work hard in science subjects so that they should too earn this opportunity to study at high profile universities outside the country,” he said.
He then used the platform to commend President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for her serious commitment to creating an enabling environment for advancing education standards in the country.
