Samia legal aid campaign reaches 600,000

DODOMA: MORE than 600,000 residents have been reached through the ongoing second phase of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign (MSLAC) in Dodoma, with over half of the disputes recorded so far successfully resolved, just nine days into the exercise.

Director of Legal Aid Services in the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Ms Ester Msambazi, said at the weekend that out of 543 disputes received during the campaign, 282 have already been settled, while 261 cases remain under active resolution.

She said the campaign aims to ensure that by May 15, 2026, long-standing legal challenges in Dodoma particularly land conflicts, compensation disputes and cases of double land allocation are resolved by between 90 and 100 per cent.

“We have reached 683,767 people, including 358,309 men and 325,458 women. Our target is to reach at least 50 per cent of Dodoma’s nearly three million residents. With nine days already gone and the strategies in place, we are confident of achieving and surpassing that target,” she said.

According to Ms Msambazi, the campaign has so far reached 22 per cent of Dodoma’s population, with strong public turnout indicating that the programme is likely to achieve its objectives within the planned timeframe.

She highlighted key challenges recorded during the first nine days of implementation, including land conflicts, delayed compensation, double allocation of plots, gender-based violence and increasing cases of child neglect and maintenance disputes, especially in Bahi District.

“In Bahi, we are receiving many cases involving child welfare support. People are having children but abandon them, so many of the cases revolve around child care responsibilities,” she noted.

The campaign is continuing across all districts of Dodoma Region, offering free legal services aimed at improving access to justice and protecting citizens’ rights.
