Over 50,000 residents benefit from Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign in Dodoma

DODOMA: MORE than 50,000 Dodoma residents have received free legal support within the first three days of the second phase of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign, signaling strong public demand for government-provided justice services.
The update was issued on Monday by the Assistant Director for Legal Aid Coordination in the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Ms Lucy Diganyeck, who said the campaign is running simultaneously across all councils in the region.
Speaking in Dodoma, Ms Diganyeck urged people facing legal disputes to turn up in large numbers and utilise the 15- day exercise, which offers free legal assistance, legal education and support in preparing various legal documents.

“The campaign began on May 1 and will conclude on May 15. We want every citizen with a legal challenge to benefit from this service,” she said.
Ms Diganyeck noted that of the 54,000 people served so far, 25,000 are men, while more than 28,000 are women, with beneficiaries largely drawn from students, motorcycle riders, smallscale traders and other community groups.
The official said the high turnout demonstrates growing appreciation of the government’s commitment to ensuring that legal services are accessible to all, especially vulnerable groups who often lack the means to pursue justice. Across Dodoma, several residents expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying it has eased administrative burdens and offered hope for resolving long-standing legal disputes.
Many commended the government for providing the service at no cost, noting that it removes barriers that have historically limited access to justice. The Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign is part of wider government efforts to strengthen the rule of law, expand citizen awareness and ensure equal access to legal redress across the country.
