Samia issues directives after swearing in ministers, other officials

DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday swore in newly appointed officials at the State House in Dar es Salaam, directing them to discharge their duties diligently and foster development.

The list includes four ministers, the Attorney General, the Solicitor General, a Judge of the Court of Appeal, and several Deputy Permanent Secretaries.

At a function held at the State House in Dar es Salaam, President Samia described the latest reshuffle she made as “normal” but an essential step in pushing the nation’s development agenda and boosting government efficiency.

The President called on the newly appointed leaders to blend their professional expertise with common sense in executing their duties diligently.

“In your work, there’s professionalism, your personal expertise, and the ability to apply common sense. Where common sense can be effectively applied, let’s use it well in serving people,” she stressed.

President Samia also announced plans to meet with each appointee individually to further discuss their roles and hand over strategic plans.

Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango urged the newly appointed officials to deliver quality services in their new roles.

He emphasized the need for collaboration and adherence to ethical standards, highlighting that these qualities are crucial for accelerating the country’s development.

On Wednesday, the Head of State made a minor reshuffle in her cabinet and key offices, with the officials taking the oath of office today.

The Head of State named Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi as the Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs, taking over from Dr. Pindi Chana, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources.

In the fifth phase of government, Prof. Kabudi served in the same position.

Dr. Chana, according to Chief Secretary Dr. Moses Kusiluka’s statement, replaces Ms. Angellah Kairuki, who has been named an advisor to the President.

Former Cabinet Minister Mr. William Lukuvi has been appointed as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination). The experienced politician Lukuvi fills the void left by Jenista Mhagama in this role.

President Samia has appointed Jenista Mhagama as the new Minister for Health. She replaces Ummy Mwalimu, who served in the position for several years.

Additionally, the Head of State has appointed Hamza Johari as the new Attorney General (AG). Mr. Hamza takes over from Dr. Eliezer Feleshi, who has been appointed as a Judge of the Court of Appeal.

Prior to his new role, Johari was the Director General at the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA).

Dr. Kusiluka added in his statement that the President has also appointed Samweli Maneno as the Deputy Attorney General. Prior to his new role, Maneno was an advisor to the President (Legal).

Dr. Ally Possi was named the Solicitor General. Before his new role, Dr. Possi served as the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport.

In addition to the cabinet reshuffle and appointments in key public offices, President Samia also appointed new regional administrative secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries.

Others, including deputy secretaries and district commissioners (DCs), have been shifted to other roles and districts, respectively.
