PM cherishes the private sector as key player for contributing  70 percent of the Vision 2050 goals

DODOMA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said Tanzania cannot achieve the development levels attained by countries such as Malaysia and Singapore through aspirations alone urging Tanzanians and government leaders to turn the goals of the National Development Vision 2050 into action.

Speaking at the climax of the Fifth National Conference on Tanzanians’ Participation in Strategic Projects and Investment, held at the PSSSF Conference Hall in Dodoma today, September 3,2026,  the PM said the private sector is expected to contribute 70 per cent towards implementation of the Vision 2050 goals, making it a key partner in accelerating the country’s development.

“The notion that only government-led initiatives are executed correctly or that intelligence resides solely with those in government is incorrect. Nor is it true that an action is inherently patriotic simply because the government carries it out; while we do not disparage government institutions, our own strategic vision allocates only 30 percent to the public sector and 70 percent to the private sector. If we cause the private sector to fail, we fail ourselves,” he said.

He added; “We aspire to emulate the success of nations that developed before us, but we must change the way we operate. We cannot catch up with Malaysia, Vietnam, or Singapore through mere aspiration; we must bring about change through concrete action. Let us stop focusing on obstacles that hinder progress and instead seek out the factors that drive it forward.”

Additionally, Dr Nchemba urged government officials to recognise that expertise and knowledge are not confined to the public sector, calling for greater use of skills and capabilities available in the private sector and among Tanzanians generally.

He said achieving the country’s development ambitions requires all stakeholders to translate the Vision 2050 targets into practical action.
