SADC partners with EU to enhance the region’s peace, security architecture

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, has chaired the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Peace and Security Programme in collaboration with the European Union (EU).

The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam, focused on a wide range of issues aimed at strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of the SADC Peace and Security Architecture, through the initiative titled Enhancing the Capability and Effectiveness of SADC’s Peace and Security Architecture (ECESPA).

Participants in the meeting included member states of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation—namely Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia. Also in attendance were representatives from the SADC Secretariat, the European Union (EU), and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The main objective of the meeting was to develop effective strategies to ensure that SADC continues to maintain robust mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution, as well as for promoting peace and security across the Southern African region, in collaboration with international development partners.
