SADC nations meet to tackle the region’s security, governance and conflict resolution

SALIMA: THE Fourth Meeting of the SADC Inter-State Politics and Diplomacy Committee (ISPDC) at Permanent Secretaries level has officially opened in Salima, Malawi, with a strong focus on regional security, governance and conflict resolution.

The two-day meeting, which began on April 28, 2026, is reviewing implementation of decisions made by Heads of State and Government, assessing the state of peace and security, and examining progress in strengthening democracy across the region.

Tanzania is represented by Ambassador Agnes R. Kayola, who is leading the delegation on behalf of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Tanzania, Dr Samwel W. Shelukindo.

Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Kayola called on member states of the Southern African Development Community to prioritise diplomatic approaches in managing and resolving conflicts in the region.

She also stressed the need for member states to fully implement agreed resolutions, describing them as key to strengthening unity, cooperation and stability within the bloc.

At the same time, she commended ongoing efforts to preserve the history of Southern Africa’s liberation struggles through the Hashim Mbita Project, noting its importance in safeguarding the region’s shared legacy.
