Rotary Tanzania conducts medical camp services for free in Dar

IN a bid to support efforts by the Sixth-Phase Government of ensuring accessibility of health services in the country, the Rotary Tanzania conducted one-day medical camp at Ukongo Ward, Dar es Salaam, over the weekend.
The Rotary Tanzania, through its progamme namely Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) in collaboration with other partners intends to bring healthcare services closer to families.
According to the Ministry of Health some of the successes recorded since President Samia Suluhu Hassan ascended to power, include, among others, completion of the first phase construction of the Southern Zone Mtwara Referral Hospital and other referral hospitals in Katavi, Mara, Songwe, Shinyanga and Geita at a cost of 51.4bn/-.
Other success projects include rehabilitation and construction of new buildings in regional referral hospitals of Njombe, Simiyu, Sokoine (Lindi), Ligula (Mtwara), Maweni (Kigoma), Songea (Ruvuma), Sumbawanga (Rukwa), Kitete (Tabora) and Ukerewe (Mwanza) in which a total of 54.2bn/- has been spent on the projects.
Speaking at Mzambarauni Primary School, Ukonga, Dar es Salaam where the event took place, past Rotary District Governor and the RFHD Country Coordinator, Mr Harish Bhatt, said the aim is to help the community to prosper in various areas, including health.
He said despite the government making a number of efforts in the health sector, still there was a need for them to support the government to ensure the services reach to many people.
“Through the RFHD initiative we provide free medical health care and education, and we are targeting to benefit five thousand residents (3,500 students and 1,500 adults) in this area”, RFHD Country Coordinator, Mr Bhatt said.
He also highlighted the number of services provided by the rotary include malaria testing and preventive education, eye tests, dental check-ups, menstrual hygiene support, and access to medication and specialist referrals as needed.
For her part, the Rotary District Governor elect (Tanzania and Uganda), Engineer Agnes Batengas, said so far Tanzania has only 600 Rotarians with 37 clubs countrywide while calling Tanzanians to join the clubs in order to participate in helping the community in the country.
On the other hand, the Ukonga Ward Councillor Mr Bendera Ramadhani commended the rotary clubs for choosing Ukonga.
