Thousands lined up for Tanzania Health Summit 2026
DAR ES SALAAM: Over 2,000 delegates are expected to participate in the transformative deliberations on how to improve health systems during the 13th Tanzania Health Summit (THS) slated from October 5 to 7 this year at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam.
Held under the theme “Building Health Sovereignty and Strengthening Health Systems in a Changing Global Order” the summit brings together government leaders, healthcare professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs and young change-makers from within and outside the country.
Delegates from over 25 countries are set to embrace the three-day summit which will also witness over 70 exhibitions as well as over 40 institutional forums.
As usual, this year’s summit will go simultaneously with THS Health Workers Awards which will see different awards being given to those who will outshine in various competing categories that have been created.
Additionally, programs such as Youth Capacity Building (YOCAB), CHIA Innovation Awards and Workshops will continue to recognize and contribute to the strengthening of healthcare systems.
In his recent briefing in Dar es Salaam, THS President Dr Omary Chillo highlighted on the importance of this annual event saying they expect many impactful decisions to be made during the summit.
“In a changing global order, health sovereignty empowers nations to break foreign dependency and control their own medical supplies.
“By reinforcing local workforces against climate and pandemic shocks, countries build self-sufficient healthcare systems and this ensures that every nation retains the power to guarantee equitable life saving care,” he said.
Dr Chillo added that throughout their existence, they have been thriving to make quality affordable healthcare accessible to every Tanzanian by creating a space whereby government leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers and development partners could sit at one table to shape health agendas.
“Today, THS is widely recognized as the region’s leading Public Private Health Platform…in 12 years, we have convened more than 10,000 stakeholders from over 230 institutions that we have been working together with.
“Also alongside government and other partners, we have helped shape landmark reforms for balance from the Universal Health Insurance Act to the Integrated Community Health Workers Programs and Safe Care Quality,” he said.
He further pointed out that they have been able to showcase more than one thousand research studies that have been presented through THS.
In a related development, Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA), World Bicycle Relief & Buffalo Bicycles, Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) directors disclosed that during this year’s THS, they will be presenting several projects and initiatives and welcome other partners to join the platform.
