Road users call for action as trucks congest road

DAR ES SALAAM: ROAD users at Chang’ombe Ward, Temeke District, have voiced frustration over persistent congestion on Suza road caused by trucks parked along the road, creating serious challenges for commuters and posing safety risks.

Residents and road users say the trucks often block the road, making it nearly impassable, especially during peak hours.

They are now calling on the Tanzania Rural Roads Agency (TARURA) and local authorities to urgently address the situation.

One road user, Amir John, highlighted the potential dangers, especially in emergencies.

“The road between Saza Road and Mwakalinga is always obstructed by parked trucks. We pass with great difficulty, and it’s alarming to think about what would happen if a fire emergency occurred. Firefighters wouldn’t even have access,” he said.

Another resident, Mr John Mwakitwange, described how the situation worsens during the day and evening, making it extremely inconvenient for pedestrians and motorists alike. “This is unacceptable. TARURA and Temeke Police need to come and resolve this issue,” he added.

When contacted, TARURA’s Information Officer, Mr Allan Mamkwe, acknowledged the complaints and promised swift action. “We have noted the issue and will address it promptly,” he assured.

Meanwhile, Temeke District Police were seen on-site in the afternoon, yesterday, attempting to alleviate the chaos by removing vehicle numbers from trucks parked in the middle of the road.

However, some drivers shifted the blame to the ongoing construction of a section of the road, which has been closed temporarily, exacerbating the congestion.

Local residents and road users are now urging authorities to coordinate better traffic management, particularly during construction projects, to prevent such disruptions in the future.
