Road safety stakeholders to hold conference in Mtwara today

MTWARA: ROAD Safety Ambassadors (RSA) have teamed up with the management of Dangote Cement Plant in Mtwara to conduct a road safety conference to discuss measures for improving road safety in the country.

The conference to be officiated by the Minister for Health Ms Ummy Mwalimu will provide a platform for the experts and road users to map action needed to make the country’s roads safer.

Home Affairs Minister Mr Hamad Masauni will also attend the conference.

Speaking here recently, Chairperson for RSA Mtwara Region Mr Nassor Mansour said the conference will be held today at Dangote sites in the region.

The conference according to RSA is intended for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Others are Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS), Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), ministry of works, and fire and rescue force.

Schools, organizations, communities from Mtwara will also take part in the meeting.

Mr Mansour noted that the conference was part of various road safety activities set to be conducted in Mtwara as the RSA and Dangote marks RSA-Dangote road safety week inaugurated on October 2, this year in Mtwara.

“RSA is here (Mtwara) to collaborate with Dangote Cement Plant to mark Road Safety Ambassadors week which is being held annually to promote awareness among all road users, the conference will be officiated by the minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu,” he said.

Besides, holding the road safety conference, the ambassadors will also hold a road safety awareness bonanza on October 14 this year.

Other activities to be conducted are road safety workshops for drivers, school children and teachers.

Meanwhile the RSA Board Chairperson Mr Mohammed Mpinga said the Road Safety Conference was very crucial towards promoting public awareness on road safety issues as he urged for all parties concerned to attend.

“The conference is very crucial and of its kind, two ministers…minister of Health and Home Affairs will attend the conference to highlight the importance of traffic safety measures and awareness towards strengthening enforcement” said Mr Mpinga’

He added that the conference would also discuss key strategies for creating a safer road environment for everyone.
