Road accident kills four, injures 21 in Bukoba

BUKOBA: FOUR people died on the spot and 21 others injured on Tuesday morning when a passenger Hiace with registration number T 339 DBV plying Izimbwa Bukoba DC to Bukoba town overturned.

Kagera Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Blasio Chatanda who visited the scene of the accident at Kyetema area told reporters that the accident happened at around 11am on Tuesday, adding that the cause of the accident was due to negligence of the driver.

“Initial investigation has revealed that the unnamed driver was speeding as he was ascending a steep hill from Katerero township. When he reached Kyetema junction, he failed to negotiate the corner and the Hiace overturned, killing the four passengers on the spot while 21 others were injured, including four children,” he said.

He explained that some of the injured passengers were rushed to the Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital for treatment while efforts to identify the deceased were in progress.

He said their bodies were being preserved at the Bukoba Regional Hospital mortuary, calling upon relatives to report at the mortuary to identify the dead.
