Ricky Ross sets sights on Tanzania’s music scene

DAR ES SALAAM: INTERNATIONAL music figure Ricky Ross has turned his attention to Tanzania, acknowledging the country’s music, talent and energy while hinting at major plans to work with both established and emerging artists.

In an Instagram Story, Ricky Ross said Tanzania had been on his mind recently, describing the country’s creative energy as powerful and calling for greater international attention to its music scene.

“The music, the talent, the energy coming out of there is so powerful and I think the rest of the world needs to pay attention,” he said.

Ricky Ross also expressed his desire to visit Tanzania, saying he wanted to experience the country beyond what he had heard about its attractions, including the Serengeti and Zanzibar.

He credited the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, for repeatedly telling him about Tanzania and said he was now ready to visit, spend time in the country and connect with its people.

“I am ready to come see it and experience it for myself. I want to spend some real time there. Connect with the people. Feel that energy. Really tap in,” Ricky Ross said.

The musician also revealed that he and Makonda are discussing ambitious plans centred on the country’s music industry, including potential collaborations with established names and opportunities for the next generation of artists.

Ricky Ross said the plans would not only involve some of Tanzania’s biggest names but also focus on discovering and showcasing emerging talent to a wider international audience.

“There’s some incredible talent out there, and I want the world to see it,” he added.

In his post, Ricky Ross also acknowledged President Samia Suluhu Hassan and said Makonda had long been encouraging him to learn more about Tanzania.
