DODOMA: THE government is developing a new digital system that will enable retirees to verify their status independently using their mobile phones, a move that will reduce inconveniences.
This was revealed in the National Assembly on Friday by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr Hamad Hassan Chande, while responding to a question from the Nachingwea MP Amandus Chinguile.
In his supplementary question, Mr Chinguile wanted to know why the government does not establish a system where retirees are verified at the district or ward level instead of the current system of verification at the regional level.
Responding to the question, Mr Chande said that the verification of retirees paid by the Treasury has been carried out at the district level.
He said that to reduce the costs for retirees to travel for verification and to reduce the inconvenience of travelling long distances to obtain the verification service, the government is developing a digital system that will enable retirees to verify their status independently using their mobile phones or banking services.
“After completing all the procedures, retirees will be educated on how to verify themselves and date for self-verification will be announced,” he said
