RC Hamduni forms committee to investigate Sabasaba Timber Market fire

MWANZA: MWANZA Regional Commissioner, CP Salum Hamduni, has formed a team of experts to investigate the cause and impact of the fire that broke out at the Sabasaba Timber Market in Ilemela Municipality, Mwanza Region, on September 22 at 3:10 hours.

Speaking about the incident, CP Hamduni said that the team comprises experts from the Fire and Rescue Force, the Police Force, and Ilemela Municipality, alongside representatives of the traders operating in the area.

He noted that the team will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the fire’s origin and the resulting damage, as well as provide recommendations on measures to enhance safety at the market.

“I take this opportunity to express my deep sympathies regarding this major fire incident at our timber market here in Sabasaba. So far, the fire has been largely brought under control through the collaborative efforts of the Fire and Rescue Force, the Police Force, and the general public,” CP Hamduni said.

He emphasized that the incident requires a comprehensive investigation, particularly because a similar fire occurred in the same area last year.

“An incident like this happened last year. The recurrence of these events suggests we are falling short somewhere. The team of experts will provide us with a detailed report on what actions we should take to prevent such incidents,” he said.

The Regional Commissioner said that the team’s recommendations would be used to implement permanent measures to enhance security in business areas and help prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
