QNET ready to cooperate in investigation of people who use its name to defraud 125 youths

DAR ES SALAAM: INTERNATIONAL company QNET has expressed its readiness to cooperate with relevant authorities in investigating individuals accused of using its name to defraud 125 young people from 11 regions across Tanzania through promises of employment and quick financial success in Singida Region.

QNET’s General Manager for East and Southern Africa, Jared Thwaits, said the company wants to establish who was involved, their relationship with the company, and whether they were authorised to represent it.

The move follows reports that the youths were allegedly persuaded to pay money in exchange for promises of employment and rapid financial success. Some of them are also reported to have been living in poor conditions, prompting local authorities to intervene.

Thwaits said QNET was concerned by the allegations because of the potential harm to the young people and their families. He stressed that the company opposes fraud and financial exploitation.

He said the individuals suspected of conducting the activities using QNET’s name were not registered Independent Distributors of the company, adding that their relationship with QNET needed to be established through an investigation.

“We must establish who is involved, what their actual relationship with the company is, and whether they were authorised to represent it. Allegations of unlawful conduct must be thoroughly investigated, and accountability should be based on verified facts,” Thwaits said.

He explained that QNET’s business model is based on the sale of products through Independent Distributors, rather than selling job opportunities or promising people guaranteed income.

He added that the company does not permit individuals to collect money using its name in exchange for promises of employment or quick wealth.

Thwaits further stated that QNET was prepared to cooperate with the authorities investigating the incident to help establish the facts and ensure that appropriate action is taken against those found responsible.

He urged members of the public to verify the legitimacy of opportunities offered by individuals claiming to represent QNET through the company’s official channels before making payments or entering into business agreements.
