Professionally, register voters, officials tasked

TANGA: OFFICIALS tasked with updating the Permanent Voter Registry in the Tanga and Coast regions have been urged to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and commitment to ensure the success of the process.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Judge Jacobs Mwambegele made this call in Tanga yesterday during the opening of regional-level training for voter registry officials.

“Some of you have had the opportunity to coordinate and oversee various activities of the commission, including previous phases of updating the Permanent Voter Registry. With your experience and the training you will receive, I am confident that you will perform your duties with professionalism, diligence and dedication, ensuring the success of this process,” Judge Mwambegele told the officials.

He encouraged experienced officials to share their knowledge with colleagues who have not participated in such processes, so they can effectively execute their tasks.

During the same training session in Coast Region, INEC Vice-Chairman Judge (Rtd) Mbarouk Salim Mbarouk, stressed the importance of officials to carry out their duties with care in all aspects, including the safekeeping of registration materials.

“It is crucial to handle your responsibilities carefully, particularly when it comes to safeguarding registration materials, as these items were purchased at considerable cost and will be used in other registration areas across the country,” said Judge Mbarouk.

He warned that any negligence in handling these materials could significantly impact the completion of this important process and emphasised that officials must adhere to all instructions from the commission to ensure the smooth implementation of the voter registry update when it begins in their areas.

The update of the Permanent Voter Registry will take place in Tanga and Coast regions from February 13 to 19, this year. Registration centres will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.
