Prof Mkumbo, Dangote hold strategic talks to bolster the firm’s investment in Tanzania

LAGOS: THE Minister for State, President’s Office, Planning and Investment,  Prof Kitila  Mkumbo is leading a high-level Tanzanian delegation for a strategic investment mission in Lagos, Nigeria.

Prof Kitila with his delegation has held strategic discussions with the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote aimed  at deepening investment cooperation between Tanzania and Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate.

The mission is a continuation of  the Translation of Tanzania  Development Vision 2050 which wants the private sector to be an engine of Tanzania’s economic transformation towards achieving the  1tri economy  by 2050.

Also the trip answers a growing partnership between the Government of Tanzania and the Dangote Group as it follows the recent visit by Alhaj Dangote to Tanzania, during which he held high-level discussions with President of the United Republic of Tanzania,  Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan on expanding investments in strategic sectors.

Those engagements reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and accelerating Tanzania’s industrial transformation. The visit to Lagos therefore marks the next phase of that partnership, with the Tanzanian delegation seeking to translate the understandings reached in Dar es Salaam into concrete investment projects and long-term collaboration.

The delegation is led by Prof  Kitila includes , the Minister for Trade and Industries, Ms Judith Kapinga,  Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, Deputy Minister for Transport, David Kihenzile, Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dr Steven Kiruswa, and Deputy Minister for Works, Eng Godfrey Kasekenya.

Others are, the Permanent Secretary, President’s Office-Investment , Dr Fred Msemwa, The Board Chairman of Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones (TISEZA), Ambassador Aziz Mlima and TISEZA’s Director General, Gilard Teri,  senior government officials, and chief executives from strategic public institutions responsible for investment promotion, infrastructure, transport, ports, energy, industrial development and economic planning.

During the meeting, Alhaj Dangote commended President Dr Samia for her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to creating a favourable investment climate. He noted that the reforms implemented under her administration have strengthened investors’ confidence, improved the ease of doing business and positioned Tanzania among Africa’s most attractive destinations for Foreign Direct Investment  on  long-term strategic investment.

Alhaj Dangote said his recent meeting with President Samia in Dar es Salaam reinforced the Dangote Group’s confidence in Tanzania’s economic direction and long-term development agenda.

“Tanzania is a country with enormous investment potential and I reaffirm my company’s commitment to supporting the country’s industrialization drive through strategic partnerships”‘, he said.

He also applauded Prof Kitila for leading a strong and well-coordinated delegation, noting that its composition reflected the Government of Tanzania’s commitment to translating policy into practical investment outcomes.

According to Alhaj Dangote, the presence of senior leaders and technical experts from key institutions demonstrated Tanzania’s seriousness in building sustainable partnerships capable of driving industrial development and economic growth.

One of the key highlights of the engagement was the Dangote Group’s long-term investment outlook, including plans to invest up to US$46 billion by 2030 across strategic sectors in Africa, including Tanzania.

The  discussions focused on expanding cooperation in manufacturing, energy, mining, transport, logistics, ports, infrastructure and other priority sectors that are central to Tanzania’s development agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Tanzania, Prof Kitila reaffirmed President Samia’s commitment to maintaining a predictable, competitive and investor-friendly business environment. He emphasized that the Government continues to implement reforms that strengthen infrastructure, improve trade, business and investment environments that create opportunities for sustainable economic growth, job creation and technology transfer.

The delegation also will tour the Dangote Group’s world-class industrial facilities in Lagos, gaining first-hand experience of modern industrial production and logistics systems.
