President Samia to drop ‘letdowns’ ahead of general election

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said she expects to drop some leaders whose pace does not match with her government’s ambitions.

Concluding CCM’s 10th National Congress held in Dodoma, the ruling party’s national chairperson said in her two years at the helm, she has already uncovered some leaders who have failed to meet government expectations.

“We have three years remaining before we get to the General Elections where citizens will hold us into account. I want both governments [Mainland and Isles] to work hard,” she told CCM members.

Meanwhile, President Samia told cadres the just concluded CCM’s 2022 election in Dodoma was the most successful one due to the big number of aspirants for various posts.

Dr Samia, who is the ruling party’s national chairperson said that the fact that most people contested for various leadership posts, it was indication that democracy within the oldest party in Africa was growing.

“This shows that CCM does not belong to anyone else other than its members,” she added.

“Their participation in the elections is a big step in our quest to strengthen democracy in the country.”

The congress endorsed Samia as the party’s new chairperson and Dr Hussein Mwinyi who doubles as Zanzibar President, as CCM Vice-chair.

Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) were also elected.

The congress also endorsed some changes in the party’s election regulations.
