DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has sent condolences to Tanzania’s film industry following the passing of celebrated actress Grace Mapunda, widely recognized for her role as “Tessa” in the popular Huba drama series.

President Samia expressed her sorrow in a message shared on her official X account (formerly Twitter), extending her sympathies to Grace’s family, friends, and the entire film community.

“I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and the film industry, particularly to fellow actors and actresses, as we mourn the loss of our beloved Grace Mapunda,” the President wrote.

She added: “For over 20 years, Grace used her talent to entertain and educate millions of Tanzanians through the dramas in which she starred. May Almighty God grant her eternal rest and continue to provide comfort and patience to her family.”

Grace Mapunda passed away on Saturday at Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where she was receiving treatment.

A former member of the well-known Kaole Group, Mapunda captivated audiences in numerous productions, including popular television series like Fukuto, Maisha, and Radi.

She also starred in films such as Fake Smile, Wrong Richness, and Laana na Nasaha.

Grace, survived by two children, will be laid to rest today at Kinondoni Cemetery.
