President Samia mourns 15 perished in Lindi accident

TANZANIA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has conveyed a message of condolence to the families of 15 people perished in the Lindi deadly road crash.

The tragedy occured on Saturday at Mputa area in Mtama District, Lindi Region on Sunday.

Sending her condolences on X (formerly Twitter) platform, the Head of State comforted the families who lost their loved ones as she wished survivors a quick recovery.

However, the President directed responsible authorities to ensure traffic road laws and regulations are enforced accordingly ahead of end of holiday season.

“My condolences to the bereaved that lost their relatives and friends in the bus accident that happened in the Mtama area, ​​Lindi region and caused the death of 15 people. May God comfort us all, have mercy on our beloved who have left us and provide speedy recovery to the injured.

“As we are heading towards the end of the year, I am instructing the security and road safety agencies to increase law enforcement and inspections,” she posted.

According to the Lindi Regional Police Commander, ACP John Makuri the accident occurred on Sunday morning after the driver of the bus owned by Baraka Classic Company failed to control it.

Elaborating, he said the bus enroute from Newala-Dar es Salaam crashed as a result of brake failure leading to the death of 12 passengers and two pedestrians on the spot.

“The incident occurred today (yesterday) at around 7 am leaving 12 dead on the spot in the bus they were travelling in and two pedestrians, who were walking along the way,” he pointed out.

He added that the injured (36) were taken to Nyangao Referral Hospital for treatment, where at the same time the bodies of the dead were preserved at the hospital’s mortuary.
