Police promise safe Dar Derby

DAR ES SALAAM: ACTING Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander SACP Faustine Mafwele says security has been stepped up ahead of tomorrow’s eagerly anticipated Dar Derby between Simba and Yanga at Uhuru Stadium.

SACP Mafwele said police would continue to strengthen security in cooperation with other stakeholders to ensure the match is played in a safe and orderly environment.

The derby is scheduled for tomorrow, at 7pm at Uhuru Stadium in Temeke, Dar es Salaam. SACP Mafwele called on fans and other football stakeholders to observe the law, regulations and procedures governing major sporting events.

“Security has been strengthened and will continue to be strengthened in cooperation with all stakeholders. We remind fans, supporters and all football stakeholders to refrain from any acts that are contrary to the law, regulations and procedures governing such a major gathering,” he said.

He said the police are aware of the importance and scale of the fixture and would work with stakeholders to maintain peace and security before, during and after the match.

SACP Mafwele also wished both teams a good match, urging supporters to play their part by maintaining peace and avoiding actions that could disrupt the derby.

In another development, Tanzania Premier League Board Communications Officer Yahya Abushehe confirmed yesterday that the online ticketing portal is now open, allowing fans of both teams to purchase tickets for the derby.

Since the start of the season, the league has adopted an online ticketing system, while clubs have been conducting awareness campaigns to educate their fans about the system and their right to attend matches.

In a related development, Simba yesterday clarified that the club no longer controls ticketing vendors for matches falling under the jurisdiction of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).

The club said the federation now oversees the procurement of ticketing vendors to avoid confusion and ensure fans know where to purchase their tickets.
