Police hold Mbinga resident for causing his son’s death

SONGEA: POLICE in the Ruvuma region are holding Kigonsela village resident Fidelis Nyoni, 33, who is alleged to have severely beaten his 11-year-old son, Greyson Nyoni, inflicting severe injury that led to his death.
The resident of Kigonsela village in Mbinga District Nyoni allegedly attacked his son after he refused to go to school, according to a police report.
A statement issued by the Ruvuma Regional Police Commander Marco Chilya said that after Greyson refused to attend school, his father Fidelis attacked him with punches and kicks, ultimately breaking the boy’s left arm, which led to his death.

The report further states that the deceased’s body has been preserved at Mbinga Hospital for further examination, while the suspect is expected to be taken to court for legal proceedings once investigations are complete.
Additionally, the police have urged parents and guardians to ensure that any disciplinary actions taken against children do not cause harm or lead to legal consequences.
