Police disown fake X media platform

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian Police Force has issued a strong warning to individuals preparing and circulating false information on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), falsely claiming to have originated from the Force’s official X  account.

In a statement issued by the Police Spokesperson from the Force’s Headquarters, the misleading content was shared through accounts purporting to represent the Tanzania Police, including one named “tanpol.”

The Force clarified that the statement did not originate from its official communication channels and should not be considered credible.

“The information being circulated is false. The Tanzania Police Force does not and cannot prepare or distribute such content through its official social media platforms,” the statement read.

The Police urged Tanzanian citizens to disregard the fake message and refrain from sharing it further.

Meanwhile, the information explained that the investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for fabricating and distributing the misinformation.

The Police Force also issued a stern warning to anyone who continues to spread the false statement, noting that legal action will be taken against both the creators and distributors.

“Strict measures will be taken against anyone involved in creating or sharing the false information, including those who continue to spread the false statement,” the statement concluded.
