PM Majaliwa leaves for Luanda to represent Samia at OACPS summit

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has left the country to Luanda, Angola where he will be representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 10th Summit of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

The five-days meeting which kicked off from December 6 will end on December 10, this year.

At the summit which is being heralded by the theme: ‘Three Continents, Three Oceans, a Common Destiny: Building a Resilient and Sustainable OACPS’ the host Angola will assume the presidency of the organisation for the next three years.

At least 79 member States from the three continents are expected to participate in this summit and will be the first to take place after the transformation of the ACP Group into an international organisation.

Leaders are expected to discuss amongst other issues, the challenges of climate change including economic diversification and peace and security challenges.

A closed-door meeting will also discuss the state of the implementation of the Revised Georgetown Agreement, consideration and adoption of the draft declaration and the date and venue of the 11th Summit of OACPS Heads of State and Government.

The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) is a group of countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific that was created under the Georgetown Agreement in 1975.
