PM graces the Steering Committee tasked to ensure Tanzania co-hosts epic AFCON finals

ZANZIBAR: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has today, July 28, 2026,  chaired a meeting of the National Steering Committee for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preparations in Zanzibar, where leaders reviewed key milestones and strategies for organising the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among various sectors to ensure Tanzania meets the international standards required for the successful preparation and delivery of AFCON 2027.

Among those in attendance was Zanzibar’s Second Vice President, Hemed Suleiman Abdullah, who serves as Co-Chairperson of the committee, alongside senior officials from various ministries, sectoral institutions and regions that will host the tournament.

Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi, represented the Minister for Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, at the meeting.

Through its participation, the Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to the tournament’s preparations by ensuring that preventive, curative and emergency healthcare services are adequately planned and ready to serve players, officials, visitors and fans during AFCON 2027.
