PM attributes investments boom to economic diplomacy

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts in strengthening international relations with partner countries have boosted the country’s trade and foreign investments.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Members of the European Parliament (EU) from the Committee on Cooperation and Development at his office in Dar es Salaam, yesterday.

“President Dr Samia has been at the forefront of strengthening relationships with various countries, a move that has brought great respect and benefits to our nation, particularly in opening up trade and investment opportunities with our international partners,” he pointed out.

Mr Majaliwa further said hat the European Union (EU) remains a major partner in enhancing Tanzania’s trade and investment through its member countries.

“Tanzania values the economic and democratic cooperation we share with the EU countries,” he said.

He added that trade between Tanzania and EU member states continues to grow, attracting more investors from Europe.

“Investment from European countries in sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, mining and tourism has increased significantly. We commend President Dr Samia for opening the doors to this cooperation,” he said.

For his part, Member of the European Parliament Barry Andrews praised the Tanzanian government for its efforts to improve the lives of its citizens, particularly in healthcare, education and infrastructure.

“Tanzania has made great strides in implementing various international sustainable development agreements, including providing quality healthcare and education to its people,” he said, adding that the EU will continue to be a key development partner for Tanzania in ensuring access to quality services.

“Over the past 20 years, Tanzania has made significant progress in improving public services and now there is better transportation infrastructure that contributes to economic growth. We highly commend these achievements,” he added.

The 14-member European Parliament delegation is on a three-day official visit to Tanzania. During their visit, they will meet with government leaders, development stakeholders and beneficiaries of projects supported by EU partner countries
