Parliament endorses Salema to represent Tanzania in EALA

DODOMA: Parliament on Thursday endorsed Gladness Salema to represent Tanzania in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Out of the 272 votes cast by members of Parliament, Ms. Salema garnered a resounding majority of 254 votes, with 18 votes against.

The newly elected MP will be stepping into the seat left vacant by Dr Shogo Mlozi, who passed away in June this year.

Ms Salema, a senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam’s Business School (UDBS) and a member of the technical team responsible for drafting Tanzania Vision 2050, expressed her heartfelt gratitude after the announcement.

“I would like to sincerely thank President Samia Suluhu Hassan for trusting me, along with my party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi, and all the leaders. I would also like to thank all opposition members of Parliament. I believe they also have faith in me,” said Ms Salema.

Deputy Speaker Mussa Zungu, who presided over the session, officially announced Ms. Salema’s victory to the House.
