Parents urged to support children’s education endeavour

COAST REGION: PARENTS in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region have been urged to support the government’s efforts to ensure every child’s right to education is upheld.

Speaking recently at the launch of the Adolescent Empowerment project, Kiromo Ward Councillor Mr Salum Mkugo, representing Bagamoyo District Commissioner Shaibu Ndemanga, shared concerns that some parents still view schooling as a waste of time, despite the government’s strides in improving educational standards.

He warned them to stop discouraging their children from pursuing education.

“The government is working tirelessly to create a conducive environment for our children to learn.

As parents and guardians, it’s our responsibility to support these efforts by motivating our children to excel in their studies, rather than discouraging them.

Education is crucial for both the children’s futures and the nation’s development,” Mr Mkugo said.

The Adolescent Empowerment project, launched by the Organisation for Community Development (OCODE) in collaboration with the government and other stakeholders, will be implemented in Bagamoyo and Kinondoni districts, under the support of the Stromme Foundation.

OCODE’s Director, Mr Jackson Joseph said the project targets school dropouts in the wards of Mbweni, Kunduchi and Kawe (Kinondoni) as well as Nia Njema, Dunda, Kiromo, Magomeni, Zinga and Makurunge (Bagamoyo).

Its goal is to reintegrate adolescents and youth into formal and informal education systems while equipping them with life and entrepreneurial skills to help them to develop income-generating projects.

The project will also collaborate closely with schoolteachers in the respective areas by establishing school clubs, addressing infrastructural challenges and providing life skills to students.

The launch was attended by social welfare and education officials from the project areas, students, Stromme Foundation Country Director Ms Doreen Matekele and representatives from various non-governmental organisations.
