Pande reserve upgraded ahead of AFCON 2027

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government is upgrading recreational facilities at Pande game reserve to attract tourists and football fans expected to visit Tanzania during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The improvements include a swimming pool, children’s playground, mini football pitch and beach volleyball court, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, said during an inspection of the ongoing projects.

Dr Abbasi directed officials to complete the projects on schedule and ensure they meet the required standards.

He said the upgraded facilities would give visitors coming for AFCON 2027 more opportunities to explore Tanzania’s natural attractions while enjoying recreational activities at the reserve.

Located about 45 kilometres from Dar es Salaam city centre, Pande game reserve is being developed as an urban nature tourism destination.

Dr Abbasi said the investment would support the country’s preparations for hosting the tournament while helping to boost both domestic and international tourism.

Tanzania will co-host AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Uganda, with the government seeking to use the tournament to showcase the country’s tourism attractions to a wider international audience.
