NSC launches sports training centres project to boost sport
DODOMA: THE National Sports Council (NSC) is rolling out a project to construct Sports Training Centres across all regions of the country, beginning with a large facility in Manyara, designed to serve the Northern Zone.
The initiative is part of the NSC’s broader strategy to promote sports development nationwide, whereby the project is being funded through the Sports Development Fund unveiled by the NSC Executive Secretary, Neema Msitha.
Msitha revealed the plan in Dodoma, when addressing a news conference on key achievements of her institution over the past four years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.
Msitha explained that the NSC has already secured a consultant for the Manyara Centre and a tender for the project will be issued soon.

She also emphasised that in partnership with Local Government Authorities (LGAs), the NSC plans to establish sports infrastructures in all district councils across the country, to enhance grassroots sports participation.
In addition, the NSC in collaboration with LGAs and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology aims to identify and nurture young talents from the grassroots level.
Msitha praised President Samia’s administration for its strong political will which she credited for the positive developments in the sports sector.
She also acknowledged the government’s efforts in improving sports infrastructure, noting a significant increase in funding.
The government allocated 31 bn/- for the upgrading of the 60,000-seater Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with repairs nearing completion.
Additionally, the government is constructing new stadiums in Arusha and Dodoma, each with a capacity of 32,000 seats, at costs of 338 billion and 310 bn/- respectively.
