NMB: Supporting learning environment is crucial

DAR ES SALAAM: NMB Bank’s ongoing contributions to improving the learning environment are significantly enhancing access to quality education, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge for national development.

By investing in infrastructure, resources and digital education, the bank addresses critical gaps, particularly in underserved areas, fostering socio-economic growth and boosting literacy.

Its efforts, including classroom construction and provision of learning materials, strengthen the foundation for future generations while aligning with national goals to develop a competitive workforce.

This commitment underscore’s NMB’s role as a key driver of sustainable development in Tanzania.

NMB Chief Auditor, Mr. Benedicto Baragomwa, said that one of the bank’s priorities is the education due to its crucial role in driving the national economy’s development.

“Supporting the education sector is essential for long-term national development, as it equips individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to drive innovation, productivity and economic growth,” he said recently at a function to support in Mufindi District, Iringa recently.

He said a strong education system promotes social mobility, reduces poverty and prepares future generations for evolving challenges.

By investing in education, societies can build a skilled workforce, improve health outcomes and foster an informed, engaged citizenry, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and national wellbeing.

For example, NMB donated 150 tins of aid, including desks and other supplies, worth over 23m/- to Kasanga, Kisasa and Sawala primary schools.

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Mr. David Kihenzile, also a Member of Parliament for Mufindi South, thanks the bank for its support in addressing the challenge of students sitting on the ground and being exposed to rain due to leaking classrooms.

In Dar es Salaam, the Deputy Speaker and Ilala MP, Mussa Azzan Zungu, said the lender has donated of 30 computers and 100 desks for the three primary schools in the district.

“Providing computers to primary schools is vital step in advancing ICT education necessary for bridging the digital divide and developing students’ technology skills,” he said. The schools in Ilala are Boma Primary, Lumumba and Mnazi Mmoja Primary.

According to the deputy speaker, ICT enhances learning by giving access to online resources, promoting critical thinking and creativity.

Additionally, it makes learning more interactive and engaging, leading to better educational outcomes and a more tech-savvy generation.

The Headteacher of Boma Primary School, Mr. Andrew Koti, said the school has already started teaching students by introducing information and communication technology (IT).

“We have started teaching our school children using IT,” he said.

Boma Primary School has received a total of 14 computers from NMB.

The Ilala District Commissioner, Mr. Edward Mpogolo, praised NMB for its continued support to the government on improving health and education sectors.

“We commend NMB for its continued support to the government in improving the health and education sectors, playing a crucial role in driving development and enhancing the well-being of our communities,” he said.

NMB’s Regional Manager for Dar es Salaam, Mr. Seka Urio, expressed the bank’s commitment to addressing community challenges across various sectors, including education.

“Education is the foundation of development for any nation,” he said.

In Kinondoni district, NMB donated equipment worth 44m/-to address various challenges, including 40 double-decker beds and 80 mattresses for Mtambani Primary School, 150 sheets for Kawe Ukwamani Secondary School and 42 tables and chairs for Kihozile Primary School and Michael Secondary School.

Kinondoni District Commissioner, Mr. Saad Mtambule said NMB has consistently been at the forefront of contributing to schools, clinics and disaster relief.

“It is a pleasure to see the bank continue to support our district with essential resources like chairs, tables, desks and mattresses,” he said.

Kihozile Primary School Headteacher, Ms. Leticia Kazonda, said NMB contributed 21 chairs and tables to the school.

“This is a crucial contribution that will enhance our teaching and help us organise training materials. I thank NMB for this invaluable support,” she said.

Mtambani Primary School Headteacher, Mr. Venance Mwasamakwela, said NMB’s donation of 40 double-decker beds and 80 mattresses will benefit 80 children with special needs.

“These children have been travelling long distances to school. With the new beds and mattresses, they will start staying in the boarding house from January, providing much needed relief,” he said.

The school has 104 children with special needs and called on other institutions to join efforts in improving their learning environment.
