NIT hailed as EAC’s first, Africa’s second institution to offer specialised aviation training
DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Institute of Transport (NIT) has become East Africa’s first and Africa’s second institution to offer specialised aviation training following a government investment of nearly 70bn/- in establishing a Centre of Excellence for Aviation.
The milestone is already attracting regional interest, with aviation authorities and airlines from Kenya and Uganda opening talks with NIT to train their aviation professionals at the facility.
NIT Rector, Dr Prosper Mgaya, announced the development today during the Logistics and Transport Professionals Conference currently underway at the institute in Dar es Salaam.

He said the investment made by the government has transformed NIT into a regional hub for aviation training, strengthening Tanzania’s capacity to produce highly skilled personnel for the rapidly growing aviation industry.
According to Dr Mgaya, the ongoing discussions with stakeholders from Kenya and Uganda reflect growing confidence in the institute’s training capacity and position Tanzania as a destination for aviation skills development in the region.
The National Institute of Transport (NIT) is a Public Higher Learning Institution established with the primary objective of providing Education and Training, conducting Research and Consultancy in the field of Logistics, Management and Transport Technology.
The Institute operating under the Ministry of Transport is located on the west of Dar-es-Salaam region, along Mabibo road in Ubungo Light Industrial area, with fully accreditation by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) to provide Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) programs at the level of Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Masters (National Technical Awards -NTA level 4 to level 9).
The Institute has five (5) faculties which include the Faculty of Aviation, Maritime and Petroleum Technology, Transport Engineering and Technology, Logistics and Business Studies and faculty of Informatics and Technical Studies.
