LADIES Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has invited Tanzanian golfers to participate in the Nigeria Ladies Golf Open tournament.
The annual four-day tournament is scheduled to tee off from November 17th to 20th this year at the Ibori Golf Country Club, Asaba Delta State in Nigeria.
Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) Vice President Anita Siwale said Tanzanian golfers will be among the African lady golfers who have been invited by their Nigerian counterparts to take part in the event.
Siwale said they are thrilled to receive such an invitation and have already forwarded it to affiliated clubs and individual golfers for them to consider the invitation.
She insisted the tournament is open for individual players and appealed to those wishing to participate to start preparing for the event.
Siwale said Tanzanian ladies have been doing well in international tournaments and invitation like this is also very important in enhancing friendship between the countries and in recent years Nigeria has become one of their good supporters.
“We are glad to see the Nigeria golfers were with us in September this year during the All Africa Challenge Trophy at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) and now appreciate their support and invitation.
“We appeal for those who wish to participate to start preparing so as to put the country into the spotlight by winning the titles,” she said.
Adding, she said a tournament like this is also a very important and ideal platform to test other top golfers’ skills and gain much-needed international experience.
Top ladies’ golfers like national team members; Angel Eaton, Hawa Wanyeche, Madina Iddi and Neema Olomi have been doing well in the international events.
But to be able to take part in the event they will need good support from companies and sports well-wishers.
Wanyeche and Iddi have a good memory in Nigeria where they helped Tanzania for the first-time finish second in the All-African Challenge Trophy in 2010.
Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf club of Dar es Salaam lady golfers include Wanyeche, Sara Dennis and Eaton, who also have good memory after shining in the annual IBB Ladies Open held at the International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, Nigeria four years ago.
