Nane Nane visitors told to tap new technologies
MWANZA: RESIDENTS of the West Lake Zone have been urged to visit the ongoing Nane Nane Exhibition at Nyamhongolo Grounds in Ilemela Municipal Council, Mwanza Region, to benefit from knowledge and services offered by government institutions and the private sector.
Speaking yesterday at the exhibition, Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) officer Ms Esther Marenya said visitors to the authority’s pavilion are receiving education on the dangers of drug use and trafficking, as well as ways to protect themselves and support efforts to combat the problem.
She said the exhibition provides an important platform for raising public awareness of the effects of drugs on health, the economy and social development, noting that education remains the most effective tool for preventing young people and other groups from engaging in drug abuse.
Ms Marenya said the DCEA continues to work with various stakeholders to expand public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing drug use and trafficking across the country.
Meanwhile, Ukerewe District Commissioner Mr Christopher Ngubiagai urged residents to make full use of the exhibition by learning about modern farming technologies that can increase production and improve livelihoods.

He also called on agricultural experts to continue conducting research and developing improved seed varieties and modern technologies that help farmers increase productivity while addressing the effects of climate change.
Mr Ngubiagai said the adoption of modern farming technologies, including intensive farming on small plots, would increase agricultural output while promoting efficient use of resources and environmental conservation.
He added that the Nanenane Exhibition will continue to attract thousands of visitors seeking innovations, technologies and services offered by government institutions, the private sector and development partners to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve people’s livelihoods.
