Mwinyi to represent Samia at Troika Summit Harare
DODOMA: : ZANZIBAR President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi is set to represent the Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, at the Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit scheduled for Wednesday in Harare, Zimbabwe.
A statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation revealed that President Mwinyi will also chair the summit.
The Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit will precede the Extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, which aims to review the security situation in the region, particularly focusing on the conflict in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The meetings will kick off with SADC Senior Officials, followed by the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, and the SADC Council of Ministers.

According to a statement issued by the SADC Secretariat over the weekend, Zimbabwe’s President, Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, who currently chairs the regional bloc, will preside over the Summit of Heads of State and Government.
“The Summit will receive an update on the progress of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (SAMIDRC),” the statement read.
The SAMIDRC, deployed on December 15 last year, was mandated to address the security situation in the DRC and restore peace, security, and stability, providing a foundation for sustainable development in the region.
