Mwinyi stresses continued prayers for peace

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi joined citizens and government leaders in the burial of Asha Khalid Salum, who passed away yesterday.

The late Asha was the daughter of the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Dr Khalid Salum Mohammed, and was employed at the Ministry of Labour and Investment Zanzibar.

She was laid to rest on Friday at her family home in Donge Kitaruni village, North Unguja Region. Earlier, President Mwinyi joined relatives and residents for the funeral prayer at Donge Kitaruni Mosque.

Meanwhile, President Mwinyi called on Muslims and the public to continue praying for lasting peace in the country. He made the remarks after joining worshippers for Friday prayers at Utheymin Mosque.

President Mwinyi said that ongoing conflicts in parts of the world, including tensions in the Middle East, are largely fuelled by the absence of peace and mutual understanding. He noted that such crises continue to have far-reaching economic and social impacts globally.

“It is important for believers to continue praying for peace in Zanzibar because without peace, no meaningful development can take place,” he said.

He also encouraged Muslim worshippers to intensify their prayers and acts of worship as the holy month of Ramadan enters its second ten days.

Earlier, on the evening of Thursday, President Mwinyi hosted a communal iftar for residents of the Urban West Region at Idrisa Abdulwakil Hall.
