Mwanza RC acts tough on irresponsible public servants

NANSIO: MWANZA Regional Commissioner, CP Salum Hamduni, has called on public servants in Ukerewe District Council to provide services to citizens fairly, equitably, and promptly, regardless of their social or economic status.

CP Hamduni made the call today, September 22, 2026, while addressing residents of Ukerewe, stressing that public servants have a responsibility to serve citizens with integrity and ensure that their concerns are addressed within a reasonable time.

He said public servants should not wait for government leaders to visit their respective areas before taking action on challenges affecting communities. Instead, he urged them to use the authority and positions entrusted to them to ensure that government services are delivered efficiently and meet the required quality standards.

“The habit of waiting for us leaders to arrive before resolving grievances is not right. Public servants should provide high-quality, timely services without regard for a person’s status,” CP Hamduni said.

The Regional Commissioner further urged residents of Ukerewe to cooperate with the government in addressing challenges affecting their communities, particularly those related to access to water, electricity, and roads.

He said the successful resolution of such challenges requires close cooperation between citizens, public servants, and government institutions.

According to him, such collaboration is essential for ensuring that development projects are implemented effectively and that public complaints are addressed without unnecessary delays.

CP Hamduni also called on residents to remain patient as the government works to address the challenges facing the district. He emphasized that citizens have an important role to play by cooperating with authorities and participating constructively in efforts aimed at improving service delivery and accelerating development.

He said cooperation between the government and residents would also help authorities identify pressing needs and prioritize interventions according to the challenges affecting different communities.

For her part, Nansio resident, Ms Mariam Chiluma, said residents continue to face difficulties related to water, roads, and electricity, describing the provision of these essential services as an urgent need.

Ms Chiluma said improving access to reliable water, electricity, and road infrastructure would significantly improve living conditions for residents and support economic activities across various parts of Ukerewe.

She noted that better infrastructure and essential services would enable residents to conduct their daily activities more efficiently while creating a more conducive environment for businesses and other economic activities.
