Mwanza company eyes to become leather hub

MWANZA based Magare Essentials Company Limited eyes to become a hub for leather product that will lead to creation of more jobs and incorporate them with required technology to manufacture high quality products.

Magare Essentials Company Limited’s Managing Director, Mr Mabula Magangila said here that the company focuses on addressing livestock keepers’ problem of reliable markets of animal skin products.

“The company focuses on growth as we approach to an end of 2023 to be capable employing 600 local employees where our manufacturing capacities will even triple to meet the high demands of leather products national wide,” he said.

He added, “We focus on building capacity to local skilled people as we believe they have everlasting merits not only to our company growth but to the country economy at large”

He said the company has 60 local employees from different parts of the country since 2021 when the company’s operation officially kicked-off.

The company deals with production of leather products ranging from safety boots, shoes, sandal, wallets, belts as well as fabrics products especially clothes such as school uniform shirts, shorts, overalls for mining, constructions works.

The company also manufacture underwear namely as boxer for men and special clothes for use in office as uniform.

Mr Magangila pointed out scarcity of homemade leather products and fabric products such as reflectors and shoes force the country to incur intense cost for importation of the products.

He said to tap the international market, the company has been exporting the leather products to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia.

He urged livestock keepers to raise the standard of raw materials particularly raw skin to avoid using country’s forex to import them. Currently, the company imports some of the materials form Malaysia, China and India.
