Musonye advises fans to observe Stadium rules ahead of Kenya vs Angola clash

KENYA: AS Kenya gears up for a pivotal Group A clash against Angola on Thursday evening at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, the CHAN 2024 Local Organising Committee (LOC) has issued a fresh appeal for fans to respect stadium regulations and preserve the tournament’s integrity.

Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of the LOC, has strongly reiterated the importance of adhering to the list of prohibited items at the stadium—after a breach was observed during Kenya’s 1–0 win over DR Congo on Sunday.

The LOC had earlier released a comprehensive list of banned items, including drums, vuvuzelas, whistles, Isukuti, Indumba, and any kind of weapons, emphasizing its goal to maintain “the best and safest environment for all spectators, players, and officials.”

Despite the guidelines, some of these items were reportedly smuggled into the stadium during Kenya’s opening match— prompting concern from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“There are items that must not enter the stadium. Things like Isukuti drums, Indumba, whistles, and vuvuzelas—these are banned,” Musonye explained during an interview with Nation FM. “When fans whistle while the referee is also using a whistle, it causes confusion. Vuvuzelas are disruptive—they drown out match commands and interfere with the players’ ability to hear referees.”

He confirmed that a CAF official summoned him after witnessing the violations firsthand, warning that continued non-compliance could lead to disciplinary action against the host nation.

“Someone from CAF approached me yesterday because these items were seen inside the stadium. I want to be very clear— we do not want Kenya to be fined by CAF. Let’s act responsibly,” Musonye warned.
