IRINGA: MUFINDI is set to once again become the centre of Tanzania’s golfing scene when it hosts the Southern Highlands Golf Tournament from August 21 to 23 this year at the picturesque Mufindi Golf Club in Iringa region.

The prestigious threeday, 54-hole national championship is expected to attract golfers from across the country to battle for top honours in both the main championship and subsidiary categories.

The tournament, organised by the Mufindi Golf Club in collaboration with the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), marks the return of the competition after a twoyear absence, with organisers expressing confidence that this year’s edition will be bigger and more competitive than ever.

Mufindi Golf Club Chairman, Yokania Chaula, said preparations are in the final stages, with the course and tournament facilities being readied to welcome players from different golf clubs across the country.

“We are working hard to ensure every aspect of the tournament meets the expected standards. We look forward to welcoming golfers to Mufindi for three days of exciting competition and memorable experiences,” Chaula said.

He noted that the main championship will be contested over 54 holes, with players battling for the Gross Winner, Gross Runner-up, Second Gross Runner-up, Nett Winner and Nett Runner-up titles.

The subsidiary competition will feature Division B and Division C winners and runners-up, while special prizes will also be awarded to the best-performing ladies, seniors and junior golfers who will compete for 36 holes.

The tournament organisers have grouped players according to their handicaps, with Division B reserved for golfers with handicaps ranging from 10 to 18, while Division C will cater for players with handicaps between 19 and 28.

The handicaps for ladies, seniors and juniors have also been capped at 28.

Organisers say participants and their families will have an opportunity to experience the area’s breathtaking landscapes, sailing activities and eco-tourism attractions during their stay.

The tournament entry fee has been set at 30,000/-, with registration closing on August 16.
