PREPARATIONS are on top gear for the launching of the 2023 Uhuru Torch Race at national level in Mtwara Region, Mtwara District Commissioner Dunstan Kyobya has said.
The 2023 Uhuru torch race launch is set for February 2nd 2023 and according to Mr Kyobya more than ten development projects worth 5bn/- are expected to be launched in the area.
Speaking recently, Mr Kyobya said the Uhuru Torch will launch the development projects in Mtwara Mikindani Municipal Council, Nanyamba Town Council and Mtwara District Council.
He mentioned the projects as health, water, agriculture, education, roads among others.
In a stakeholders meeting organised in the district, Mr Kyobya directed heads of departments, public institutions and the general public to start preparing for the Uhuru torch race.
He said various Uhuru torch race committees have been already organised. He said the committee members including government leaders, religious leaders and public leaders at the grassroots.
Mr Kyobya stressed the need for heads of departments, public institutions to prepare well for the 2023 Uhuru torch race launch.
The DC also urged citizens’ to participate at the Uhuru torch launch, saying the launch of Uhuru torch race in the region is a golden opportunity for the Mtwara people.
He said business people including food vendors (Mama Lishe) should be prepared and grab the business opportunities that will come along with the big event of Uhuru torch race.
According to Mr Kyobya, launching the Uhuru torch race in Mtwara is a great honour for the people of Mtwara and implored wananchi to come out in large numbers to participate as well as to grab business opportunities to come along.
Gracing the climax of 2022 Uhuru torch race in Kagera Region, President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan declared Mtwara Region as the host of the 2023 Torch race launch.
