Mtwara conducts a special operation aimed at curbing road carnage

MTWARA: THE Mtwara Regional Police Force, through its Traffic Division, has conducted a special road safety operation involving the inspection of motor vehicles, alcohol testing for drivers, and the provision of road safety education to both drivers and passengers.

The operation took place at the Mkanaredi bus terminal located in Mtwara Mikindani Municipality and was led by the Head of the District Traffic Police Unit, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ally Juakali, alongside other traffic police officers.

During the exercise, drivers were urged to avoid the use of alcohol, especially while on duty, as such behavior endangers not only their lives but also the lives of other road users. SP Juakali emphasized that the goal of the operation is to curb reckless driving and ensure full compliance with road safety regulations.

Passengers traveling from Mtwara to various parts of the country were also encouraged to play an active role in safeguarding their own safety by reporting negligent drivers. The police stressed that contact numbers for the Regional Traffic Police Commander are clearly posted inside the vehicles to facilitate easy reporting.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Police Force to enhance road safety and protect the lives of all road users in the Mtwara Region and across the country.
